Getting preventive care helps you find out if you have any serious disease or a medical condition before it becomes a big problem. Getting an annual check-up, flu shots, immunization along with some screening and certain tests are examples of preventive care. They can even be called as routine care.

Nguyen Medical Group has come up with Boynton Beach preventative health that you can be a part of. The team of preventive health follows all the required preventive methods to track down any kind of disability or illness in the body. Make sure you schedule your appointment soon and get your preventive checkup done.

The difference between diagnostic care and preventive care:

In diagnostic care, the provider is looking for something in specific which is often based on the results of previously done screening or preventive tests. For your understanding, a radiologist can ask for a follow-up mammogram for his patient. The follow-up is done to confirm or check something that was detected when a routine mammogram or preventive care was performed.

A follow-up mammogram is diagnostic and can not be said as a preventive care. But do you know the services provided in preventive care?

Here is a list of services in preventive care:

  • Annual check-up: This happens once in a year when your primary care provider checks the physical and emotional health in you. This can be helpful in detecting any problems in your health before they turn out to be a major problem.
  • Flu shot: You need to take a single flu shot to protect yourself from certain flu viruses. You will find this under every health plan.
  • Mammogram: After the age of 40, it is important that you get a mammogram done once in a year. This is a routine x-ray of your breast tissue to make sure there are no signs of cancer or any other kind of abnormalities.
  • Colonoscopy: After the age of 50 you should get this done once every 10 years. It is a screening done to detect colon cancer.
  • Vaccination: This is usually administered during childhood and includes boosters as required. Vaccinations like mumps, measles, polio, rubella and many others are covered.

Examples for non preventive care are:

  • Screening and diagnostic tests as recommended by the doctor.
  • Additional visits to the doctors for primary care
  • Visit to the specialist for proper treatment.
  • PSA blood test.
  • Having alternative therapies as required and prescribed by the specialist.

It is rightly said that “An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure. So, make sure you too take care of your health through preventive care.
